Breaks crypto market problems into three components: market structure (where are participants positioned?), fundamental/narrative (what story is the market telling?), and technical signals (what does price action say?). All three must align for high-conviction trades.
Before any trade idea, understand the market structure: Where is liquidity? Who are the major players? Where are the stops? Market structure determines whether a trade thesis is actionable, not just directionally correct.
When evaluating any trade: (1) What is the current market structure (range, trend, consolidation)? (2) Where is liquidity that could be swept? (3) Who are the marginal buyers/sellers at current levels? (4) What does the order book look like? Only then consider direction.
A bullish thesis means nothing if there is a large wall of sell orders at the target level — wait for liquidity sweep before entering.
On-chain data (exchange inflows/outflows, whale movements, DeFi protocol usage) provides a more reliable read on market sentiment than price or social media metrics. Large exchange inflows often precede selling; outflows often precede accumulation.
When assessing market direction: Check on-chain metrics before social sentiment. Large BTC to exchanges = potential selling pressure. Large BTC off exchanges = potential accumulation. Whale wallets moving = institutional positioning signal.
When exchange wallets spike with BTC deposits, it typically signals that holders are preparing to sell — use this as a timing signal, not just directional indicator.
Treat risk as a fixed budget that must be allocated efficiently. Each trade has a maximum loss; size positions so that losing streaks don't destroy the portfolio. Preserve capital for the high-conviction setups.
When sizing any position: What is the maximum loss if this thesis is wrong? Can I withstand 3 consecutive losses of this size without changing my strategy? If not, reduce position. Never risk more than 2-5% of portfolio on any single trade.
A 10x leverage trade on a coin with 10% stop loss is equivalent to losing 100% of that position if stopped out — use appropriate leverage and position sizing.
